Star996 and its licence claims, checked plainly

Star996 is one of the brands the old version of this site listed next to SKY777. Its page was short and made three kinds of claim: that Star996 is an officially registered gambling company, that it offers sports betting, casino games, poker and bingo, and that it holds licences for all of them. It also linked to an online version and a chat window.

We have kept the page, but rewritten it around a simple question: what can a player actually check?

What the old page claimed

• Sports and "financial" betting authorised and regulated by a body called the "Game Association (GA)".
• Casino, gaming, poker and bingo said to hold a Philippine government licence.
• A single wallet: one username, password and payment method across all products.

What we could verify

Very little. No licence number, licence holder or company name was given, so there is nothing to look up. "Game Association (GA)" is not the name of any gambling regulator we know of. The Philippine claim is too vague to test: the Philippines does license some offshore operators, but a real licence comes with a named company and a number you can check against the regulator's own list. Neither was provided.

We also have no screenshots of Star996's games, app or website, only its logo. So we cannot describe the product, the betting markets or how the wallet works.

That does not prove anything bad about Star996. It means the page gave players no way to confirm what it said, and we will not repeat claims we cannot stand behind.

What a licence would and would not mean for you

Even a genuine foreign licence does not make online gambling legal for a player in Malaysia, where it is restricted. It also does not give a Malaysian player an easy route to complain if a withdrawal is refused. In practice your protection depends on the agent or site you deal with.

Checks before depositing anywhere

• Ask for the operating company's full name and licence number, and check them on the regulator's own website.
• Start with a small deposit and a small withdrawal to see how cuci works and how long it takes.
• Never share online banking passwords or TAC codes.
• Be wary of bonus offers that come with rules you have not read.
