ThunderBolt: betting on six monkeys racing up poles

ThunderBolt is the odd one out in the 3Win8 list. It has no reels at all. Six cartoon monkeys, numbered 1 to 6 and each in a different colour, race up tall poles, and you bet on the result. The art is bright and childish, but the money side works like a table game.

The bet board

The betting screen has three parts:

• Banker, Tie and Player: three painted fans across the top, marked x2, x26 and x2.
• The lantern grid: rows numbered 1 to 5 down the left and columns 6 to 2 across the top, so each red lantern stands for a pair of monkey numbers. Each carries a payout figure, from 3 up to 1000. In this capture a 0.50 chip sits on the lantern marked 60 (row 1, column 3).
• Last 5 Result: a list on the right showing recent pairs such as 1-4 and 2-3, the payout they paid, and whether Banker or Player took the round.

Along the bottom: WIN, TOTAL BETS (0.50 here), the chip value, CLEAR and a green START button. Next to the grid, gold text reads "Multiplier x3 x4 x5" and "Free Monkey".

The screens do not explain how a pair is decided, whether it is the first two monkeys to reach the top or something else, so we won't guess.

The special monkeys

The help page lists four extras:

• Gold Monkey: "Winners won total bet x100".
• Rainbow Monkey: a wild that can stand in for any number from 1 to 6.
• Multiplier: x3, x4 or x5, shown next to a Monkey King figure with a staff.
• Free Monkey: one extra monkey for the winner.

How often these appear is not stated.

The race

After START the scene switches to the poles. The hero shot shows the starting line in front of a temple gate. In the capture above, taken mid-race, monkeys 2 and 3 are near the top while 1, 5 and 6 are far behind.

Worth knowing
