Three Kingdoms borrows its cast from the Chinese classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The reels are wooden panels on a bamboo-and-battlefield backdrop, and the symbols are character portraits: a warlord in a gold crown, a strategist with a blue hat and fan, a green-robed general with a long beard, a young woman in red, plus a red war horse, a feather fan, a bow with quiver, a gold treasure box and a set of war flags.

The paytable

The first help page lists:

  • Treasure box: 50, 200 and 1000 for three to five.
  • Characters: the crowned warlord up to 400, the strategist up to 200, the green-robed general up to 160 and the woman up to 100.
  • Items: red horse up to 60, feather fan up to 40, bow and quiver up to 20.
  • Chinese weapon (a curved blade): 3 or more anywhere trigger the bonus game.
  • Flags: substitute for any symbol except the bonus.

Six dots along the bottom show there are more help pages, which we have not seen.

Lines and bets

In the hero shot, 9 lines are on at 0.10, so 0.90 a spin. The panel shows LINE, a minus and plus for LINE BETS, the BETS and WIN readouts, AUTO and SPIN.

In the lower-bet capture (0.01 a line, 0.09 a spin), six bow symbols on reels 3 to 5 are highlighted and the rest of the grid has gone grey, for a 0.06 win. A DOUBLE button replaces AUTO, which lets you risk that win.

The duel bonus

The bonus screen names the two generals in Chinese at the top corners: Guan Yu on the left, Zhang Fei on the right. Three round buttons let you back Guan Yu at x2, a DRAW at x6, or Zhang Fei at x2. TOTAL BET, WIN and COLLECT run along the bottom.

When your side wins, a large WIN sign appears over the winner. The pick is a guess; nothing you do in the duel changes the odds.

How does the Three Kingdoms bonus work?

Three or more weapon symbols start it. Two generals, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, face off. You back one of them at x2 or a draw at x6, and the result screen shows who won.

Is the duel skill-based?

No. You make a pick and the game decides the result. The x6 on a draw simply reflects that a draw comes up less often.
