Sparta: warships, shields and a full-reel warrior wild

Sparta takes its look from ancient Greece: a rocky mountain backdrop, bronze card letters, a red-sailed warship, a catapult, a painted vase and a round shield with a short sword. It runs up to 30 lines, which makes the screen busy when every line is on.

The paytable

The rules page shows:

• Warrior (wild): appears on reels 2, 3 and 4, expands to cover its reel and substitutes for everything except the scatter.
• Scatter (a line of soldiers' helmets and shields): 2, 5, 25 or 200 for two to five, and it triggers 15 free games with a x2 multiplier.
• Warship: 5, 40, 150 and 4000 for two to five of a kind.
• Catapult: 5, 20, 100 and 2000.
• Vase: 15, 80 and 750. Shield and sword: 12, 50 and 500.
• Card letters: A and K up to 300, Q and J up to 200, 10 and 9 up to 100.

The page does not say how many scatters start the free games. It is most likely three, but we have not seen it stated.

Lines and bets

The hero shot has all 30 lines on at 0.10 a line, a total bet of 3.00. With that many lines the coloured paths cover the symbols almost completely. Above the reels sit MINOR at 950.00, a RANDOM JACKPOT of 16070.54 and MAJOR at 1900.00.

The second capture shows the wild at work. The armoured warrior fills the whole third reel and joins two Ks on line 1 for a 0.50 win on a 0.10 spin (5 lines at 0.02). AUTO has turned into GAMBLE, which lets you risk that 0.50 on a guess.

Fewer lines is cheaper, but the expanding wild is only useful when lines pass through it. Keeping lines up and the line bet down usually gives a steadier session than the reverse.
